Biography
Professor Burkinshaw holds the chair in Textile Chemistry. He is a colour chemist by training and has carried out research in many aspects of coloration, mostly in collaboration with many of the world's largest chemical companies. During his time at Leeds, he has held several senior posts including Head of School and Dean of Faculty and has supervised over 75 PhD and MSc students, as well as numerous postdoctoral research scientists; he is currently editor-in-chief of the leading colour chemistry scientific journal.
Research Interests
Professor Burkinshaw’s research interests concern the chemistry and application of dyes and pigments, colour measurement and textile finishing. He has published extensively across a wide range of research areas in scientific journals, books and patents; his research activities have so far resulted in the formation of two Leeds University spin-out companies.
